7 Reasons Why I Hate Thailand being a Filipino

I've been to many beautiful places in the Philippines and I know our country has a lot of things to offer. But when I went to Thailand, I suddenly feel the hatred inside my heart as a Filipino.

This is my first international travel that’s why every single moment of our trip is very memorable. However being a Filipino, I really feel bad and bitter about their country, well I should say, beautiful and amazing nation.

I will not blog about our itinerary, the budget breakdown and anything about our route. You can check it from different travel agency!

I’m writing this post to share the reasons why I really hate Thailand!

1. Public transportation system

Thailand's Tuktuk is the version of Philippines' Tricycle.

Our first goal is to experience the public transportation system of Thailand particularly in Bangkok.

Bangkok Taxi. Super linis!

Thailand Sky Train BTS/MRT. Photo by www.surgerygetaways.com.

Their train system has an above-ground network called the Skytrain or BTS and a subway line called the MRT. Each line is connected to each other. How efficient! (Kaya naligaw tuloy kame sa dami ng pasikot-sikot. Haha!) You can see the comparison map below:

Manila MRT / LRT Map. Photo by: www.urbanrail.net

I am still amazed with their mass transit - this is way better than our MRT/LRT in Manila! I really feel sorry about our poor public transportation system and I hate Thailand for being BETTER than us.

How I wish our government can do the same!

2. Roads and Highways

This is the same sentiment from #1. You can see it through their high-class airport setting, their wide roads and highways. I have nothing to say but to envy them!

3. Being a foreigner

This is my first time to travel outside our country and I feel nervous being a "dayuhan" (foreigner). But I can’t feel it because everytime we asked for help (ex. directions, suggestions, etc) from the locals, they always seem to think that we are Thai. (Filipinos look like Thai people)

So we ended up getting NOTHING. Darn!

4. Spicy and unique food selections

Another thing that made me hate Thailand is the spicy and unique (exotic) foods! I’m a big fan of spicy foods and I really love how Thai people added a distinct taste in their dishes. I could say that Thai wins my heart (and taste buds too☺)!

5. It’s cheap!

Calling all shopaholic out there! Thailand is the place to be!

There are lots of shopping malls in Bangkok. You can check the best shopping malls in Bangkok here. You can go crazy shopping and choose from a wide selection of branded items that’s cheaper compare here in Manila.

Of course, I bought some clothes too :)

6. Arts and Culture

This is an alarming topic nowadays in Metro Manila. With the issue of Torre De Manila, Philippines is now facing different dispute against the value of our culture and the arts.

Well, in Thailand, you can see a lot of astonishing temples displaying figures of Buddha, opulent royal palaces and amazing collections of their rich culture and history.

I hate seeing these things and this made me envy Thailand even more!

7. “Barok” English doesn’t matter

Thai is the official language of Thailand (of course!) HAHA. But this really made me hate Thailand…ever!

Why?

We, Filipinos, are very much conscious about our English speaking skills. We tend to focused on English language and often times forget our own. I still remember my grades in High School. I never gave my attention to Filipino subjects thinking that these will not give me any recognition when I am working. Yes, that’s true. And I feel sad about this reality happening now.

Philippines is very rich in culture, we have 7,107 islands to discover, distinct foods, poor (but fun experience) public transportation, and affordable Pinoy brands. But when it comes to our language, we lose our own!

Thai language is widely spoken throughout Thailand and I love how they value their own. Obviously they can still speak English but this is not their main priority. I hate them because we are at par and yet we’re still living in this country where “Barok” English is not accepted!

Thailand is a beautiful country and I appreciate how this place added another lesson to my life. Thanks for the wonderful memories!

I think I should revise my title to: 7 Reasons Why I Hate Philippines after Visiting Thailand ☺

Thank you for visiting my little space and see you again in my next adventure! :)

    2. Sure since we are not that rich. But at least we have them.

Somehow putting others down just to feel better with yourself that you are not the lowest is nothing but just crab mentality. Unwise and really immature. Also tells a lot about how one were raise and taught. What you do is just a psychological defense mechanism to prevent your feeling from being hurt but does not fix any problem. Same as painkiller. It reduces pain but does not cure any disease.

Problem is that it also like painkiller in that the more you use it, the more you addict to it.

    3. I don't think I have to remind you that being a crab mentality person fix nothing because there are many people already told it.

Also you can read some tourists review of their BTS here.

      http://www.tripadvisor.com.ph/ShowUserReviews-g293916-d450970-r102688769-BTS_Skytrain-Bangkok.html

The best way to improve yourself or any social is to compete with yourself. What you will do tomorrow must be better than what you do today. What you do today must be better than what you do yesterday. It's not dragging others down to look good or to feel OK with yourself. If most Filipio are like you I have no wonder why PI passed over by many countries.

BTW, what you said add proof to this article, esp. #6. Also read the comments which are quite good.

    4. Dear Lin Pug. Judging from your G+ you are not Thai.

I'm Thai and I'm glad that you like my country. However, with all due respect, trolling in other's blog helps nothing. Nothing good for TH. Also nothing good for PI. Also not good for your country. Only makes thing worse. Beside, this is John Aries Tudla blog's, please respect him.

This is just a very few thing I would ask from you. Hope you don't mind considering my asking.

      Thank you.

  7. Typical Filipino crab mentality. Why hate Thailand instead of being inspired from such a beautiful country? It's normal to be envious. I've been to different countries myself and the Philippines totally pales in comparison. But don't let turn your envy turn into hate. Emphasizing that you hate Thailand several times because it's much better than the Philippines will just spread negativity to your readers. Just imagine if someone from Thailand came across this page.

Please do change the title to "7 Reasons Why I Hate the Philippines after Visiting Thailand" and omit the parts where you said you hate Thailand.

  8. A Thai stumbled upon your blog.

I truly hope it's just writing style. I mean envy is one of the reasons for crab mentality, which is not good at all.

Thailand is like every country in the world. We have both good and bad things. Also good and bad people. Hope you see all the firsts.

I live in Chiang Mai, another tourist destination. From many blogs I've read, tourists said they feel another experience from BKK. If you don't mind, please take my reply as an invitation for your next trip.

  9. Thank you for your impression blog

Your blog shows the stereotype of foreign tourist ( focusing on Asean ) who came to visit Thailand. I am a Bangkok local that I always skipped everything in your perception.

I plan to travel in your country this year. I read the review in positive and negative ways but let see Manila and Cebu by my eyes better.

  10. We just visited Thailand last week and every words written in this article is true! I felt the same way when we were there. I actually felt offended when I've read some blog before that Thailand is better than Philippines and more foreigners prefer to retire there than in our country. I wanted to reply back that Philippines has lot to offer than this land locked country. But when I went to see Bangkok, I realized that, yes, in so many ways... Thailand is better and has also captured my heart. Even in the BTS, everyone are willing to give their seat to children, pregnant and elders - far different than we have in our country. :(

  11. I am saying the Philippines can't compare to Thailand. As you know that, Thailand has no robbery, gun shooting, safest and open-mind.
Thai people are smart, clean and very good looking people on the world, clean street, air pollution is fine as well, beautiful environment, beaches and Buddhist. I give you 0 marks, because you are talking badly to my favorite country.

    1. Narcissistic Thai! Are you sure? I've been to bangkok but slums are much worst! People are old fashioned. Beauty? Everyone or the world knows that Filipinos are beauty title holders! Search it on net! Robbery? A lot of them in bangkok! Buddhism? Not evenna religion its a philosophy? It's my culture-an Indian Culture!! Beaches? Hahahaha unfortunately, Boracay in Ph got the price as the best beach in the world! Environment? Pretty much the same with PH but I can say, Thailand still needs to be developed. Sorry for telling the truth! Ive been visiting 56 countries beacause of my job, but to give you a scale from 0-10? Thailand-4 Philippines-7. Make a research! Stop making an opinion! Be educated!

Thailand is a great country pero ang dami ding panget dun.

  14. I'm English and lived in Thailand 16 years It is a beautiful and amazing country and I always was amazed at the endless trios you can make to different beautiful islands or mountains. However there are bad points like a foreigner is always considered below a Thai ... Thai rak Thai. Also.you cannot own a house there only a condo unless you set up a company. Philiphinnes has ruined itself with over population and corruption, building without any planning. Thailand to most extent protect their land. Philiphinnes has amazing islands but are more expensive to holiday and eat etc. Both beautiful countries but different entirely.

  17. Why do you have to compare? I have a masters degree in Tourism Economics and Management but prior to earning that degree, I made a research study about the Philippine tourism-the sudden decline of international tourists in the country. Main reason? Your Personality-Filipinos never appreciates nor take advantage of telling the world the beauty of PH has to offer. They always love to say bad things about PH in the internet(just like what you do). Tourism has a big contribution in Thailand's economic development. Why? Simply because, Nationalism is natural for thais-good or bad they always show the good ones! Too sad, thailand always stereotypes PH as a dirty/slum country. Like seriously, there's more slums in bangkok but they don't show it. It's a tourism strategy! Culture? Buddhism is not a part of Thailand's culture it is greatly influence by it's origin-indian/chinese. Diverse culture is evident in PH, from prehispanic sultunates to western influence. You want to see the real filipino arts? Visit mindanao. The cold war classified Philippines and Thailand as a third world country. But it's just that, Thailand gained it's worldwide popularity in culture and arts and is number 2 with most tourist arrivals simply because thai loves Thailand! But pinoys are still in PTS with Colonizers!

    1. Those people who living in slums in Thailand has more quality of life, education and health care. When they get sick, they only go to public hospital and pay THB 30 or Peso 70 for the health care services and their houses build by wood but the houses in slums in the Philippines mostly build by paper cupboard. The status of Thailand today is at the list of the 2nd World Countries same as Malaysia while the Philippines still on the list of the 3rd World in the year 2021.
