Manila: A new take on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet

Calling all the fans of performing arts as Manila Shakespeare Company proudly brings you the Romeo and Juliet Play.

On February 27, 2015, a new take on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is set to unfold at Teatrino, Promenade, Greenhills in San Juan City, Manila, Philippines. This local perspective on Shakespearean production aims to refresh the beauty and cross-cultural relevance of Romeo and Juliet to the new generation or what we call now, the Millennial.

During the press preview last February 19, 2015, this new take on Romeo and Juliet will be more relatable as they inject some local language or dialects in some scenes and use familiar wardrobe such as cellphones, hoodies & shades without deviating its value. Moreover, this new interpretation of Shakespeare's language and storytelling will be more experiential in a sense that they perform not only on-stage, but in 360 degree view (as in literally in front of your table while having your dinner.) Manila Shakespeare Company Director, Nicanor Campos said "We attempt to balance these elements in order to create something at once familiar and at the same time excitingly, surprisingly new."

With its up-to-the-minute approach, attention to every single-line details, and allowing the characters to extrapolate back stories, this new version of Romeo and Juliet is hoping to make a small but significant change in the local theatre scene and entertainment. "We wish to make the best, most impactful first impression possible so that we may generate interest in future productions and opportunities for Shakespeare to receive the appreciation he deserves in this country", director Campos added.

Starting March 2015, Manila Shakespeare Company opens its door to companies, organizations, colleges and universities for a full show performance. There are corporate packages and group rates to choose from in your most convenient time and location.

Opening performances will be on February 27, March 5, and March 6. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and the performance will follow promptly at 8:00pm. For more information, please contact Manila Shakespeare Company at 0939-5969-250 or email at mnlshakesco@gmail.com.
